Mrs Ava

I have Avas permission to spend the whole day at the lottie tomorrow whilst he entertains all 3 kids!  He is a saint, and will need lots of tlc by the time I get home.

What will the day hold for me I wonder.  I must remember to take a hat and put on lots of sun cream, oooo, and take plenty of water to drink.  Must not forget to take my camera as my super human gigantical sunflower is now starting to show colour, so tape measure required also.

Going to cut all of my purple caulis as they are all now a good size and I don't want them to go over - then plenty of compost on that patch.  Clear the peas that have finished and do some weeding.  Then I am going to attack the paths with the shears and give them a good haircut.  Over on plot number 2 there is a huge bank of stinging nettles which get me everytime, so they have to be cut down, and I will stuff them (ouch...oooo....eeech) into sacks ready for the compost heap when there is room.  Oo, and must get shot of all blight ridden tom plants, and cut back all the foliage of my spuds, even if they are not showing blight signs - it is everywhere on our lottie site, so I might as well get sorted now.

Have digging and weeding planned, and then I will probably need some sort of stretcher and a couple of big burley men to carry me back to the car and send me on my way home.

Here is hoping, whatever your plans are for Sunday, that the sun shines and you have a lovely day.  ;D

Mrs Ava

I am cream crackered!  Got to the allotment at 7.30am, leaving Ava in bed and the kids playing at dismantling the house.  By lunch time, I had weeded and edged all of the main plot.  This included oiking out the last of the tatty pea plants and the bolted lettuce and florence fennel.  I ate several huge fat juicy raspberries and lots of sugar sweet peas.  I watered all of the new seedlings, which is a labour of love as it required lugging buckets of water from the stream, or my water butt to the said plants.  Then, shortly before heading home for a spot of lunch, I got stung by a wasp!  YOUCH!  However, got to be honest here, the wasp sting was fine, the darn nettles stings on the other hand are still hurting now!

After lunch, Ava and the kids dropped me off to start work on lpot numero 2, the pumpkin/corn patch.  Nettle-icious!  Wow they sting.  I should imagine Derbex could hear my curses.  Have some stonking squashes tho, going to take stacks of great pics when they are all mature in the autumn.  Plus, my corn!  My God my corn!!  Most of it now stands several inches taller than me, so is at least five and a half foot tall!  Most have 3 ears coming, some have 4, and a couple have 5!  I am going to be eating corn on the cob for months!!

By 5pm I was done in, so called Ava to come fetch me and drag all of the produce home.  Picked a carrier bag full of runners and frenchies, and bag full of peas, brocolli, caulis, courgettes, beetroots and the last of my onions that weren't white rotted through.  I have taken some pics, which will appear in different places, once I can get the darn things downloaded!

Anyhows, had a great day, hope you all did to!  ;D

OMG Emma - you really are super-woman to do all that work on your lotti in this heat  ;)- I just spent my day leisurely pottering around the garden, pulling out a weed here and dead-heading there.  Can't do much in this weather I am afraid (mind you - you have youth on your side ;) .......bit too much for an 'old codger' like me ;D  Mind you, all hell broke loose in the evening when son and daughter in law turned up - minus grandson who thought it was 'too wussie' (whatever that means!) to go and see grandma :(

Glad you had a good day and how great to go home laden with all the fruits of your labour.......well done :D
Happy gardening all...........Pat
