You get a sharp pair of scissors out from under all the excess wrapping paper and cellotape you didn't use. Make a new hole on your leather belt because your clothes seem to have shrunk  ::)
The turkey carcass has been stripped, picked and boiled more times than your Grannie's bloomers (so wish she would keep her knees together)  :o
You're bored of all the TV Christmas specials on TV.
You think of things you could be doing gardening wise instead of making small talk with relatives that ate and drank you out of house and home and you went *off* as soon as you opened that horrible woollen sweater Aunt so and so bought you from Matalan and you are burying in the bottom of your bean trench as soon as they leave.  ;D

You're dreading the first credit card/bank statement dropping on your doormat with all the subtlety of a house brick.

To take your mind of things...

What are you going to sow first this year (2008) in January  ;D

Probably some early tomato varieties...

Leeks and Tumbling Tom tomato for the windowsill. And chillies. And herbs. And maybe some more broad beans and peas outside. And I might try the last of my "overwintering" onions on the offchance, as my spring planted sets are always a disaster.

Shallots...

Well its going to be tomatoes, chillies, sweet peas and onions Yayyyyyyy !! i cant wait  :D

Borlotto and  Cannellini beans; squashes; Chervil ; global Artichokes and Agretti;

Some Onion ,Leeks, try to get some big Onions this year. :)

can tomatoes be planted that early? what variety and do they need to be in a greenhouse please? ;D

Tomato Britains Breakfast can be sown in a heated greenhouse in January or an unheated greenhouse in February.
That's just one variety I found, I'm sure there are many more that can be sown with some *Bottom Heat* or heated greenhouse/propagator  :)

OK you are not wrong in what you say Lauren its just that it  doesn't apply to us all.

As an aside for all our members who haven't done it;

Earlier this year it was decided to put our location under our avatar so that people could relate to where people lived.

The idea being was to give the reader a guide to the usefulness of any information to them, as is in this case with me.

Thank goodness for experienced gardener's like you or I might have wasted valuable seed, sowing when it's way too cold :(

Nothing i will be getting over my cold. :(....allways seem to get a bad cold in January. :'(

I have had this darn cold for a week now. I'm the understudy for Rudolph as my nose is shining that red.  ;D

peas, celery, asparagus, lettuce, aubergines, cauliflowers are all set for my january sowings, either indoors or in the greenhouse

Apple trees and shallots for me, plus anything else i can get the time for. Maybe some gooseberry bushes and strawberries. :)

got some peas to sow end of january, in guttering in the poly, toms will go in on the windowsill propagator same time  ;D

Oh Barnowl so glad you corrected, I was about to scream ..don't do the squash.

I will be doing some tomatoes,just a few that are short season as I will be picking them while potting on the regulars. Peppers I always do early, and I do do a few things for a heated greenhouse.

I squash plant that lives in the greenhouse and I grow vertically. just to tide me over, and of course my  favourite indoor salad patch which grows beautifully in a large tub.

Just had a surprise heated propagator turn up in the post, so will be expanding my range! What do you lot grow in heated propagators in the early part of the year?
