I've just sent hubby out in the torrential rain to post the parcel (handy things, these men ;D)

You have got plenty of time to send me the artichokeseeds rosie,all winter. ;D ;D.The artichokeseeds you got are they from a green or purple artichoke?

Hey Ruud,

I grew green globe improved artichoke from seed this year. They are great fun, and reached about 4 ft high in just a few months. I read that you are supposed to cut off the artichokes in the first year, to strengthen the plant. I tried, but couldnt bring myself to cut a few till they were just big enough to have a mouthful or two from them. They were delicious. Only time will tell if I did the right thing. :-\

I did another strange thing this year after harvesting all artichokes from the only plant i had,he started to make little sideshouts from the stem of the plant,after a while i digged up the old plant and took all the sideshouts of.Now i got a row of 6 plants all growing well.

Ruud, did the sideshoots have their own roots when you took them off? Sounds like a great idea for increasing the number of plants I have, without the bother of growing them from seeds.

Yes they did have all roots of there own,or a part of the old roots.I did this all on a rainy day so the new plants got a real good start.

Aha, collected 'the parcel' from the post office this morning, I must say it looks like Alladins cave in that box!!

Btw, carpet carrots sound like a way to go Cj!    D***ed if I can get a decent crop by conventional methods  ;D

Same here, Ellkebe. 4 lots of carrots sown , and about 6 carrots :-\

Mind you , I think we will need to use a short variety, unless the carpet is an exceptionally long piled one ::)

Parcel arrived here safely, but unfortunately while I was away for a few days  :(  OH went and collected it from the PO but he knows better than to get between me and my seeds  :)  so I'm afraid it didn't get  raided until yesterday evening.   Just like getting a Christmas box  ;D  Had great fun swapping 'out' and am now going to swap 'in' and try to get it in the post today.

Problem is  - next in line is Emmak and address is down on the list in the parcel as still to come :(  Emmak, I know I had your address for a swap earlier in the year but I've cleared out my pms since then - could you pm me it again?  Or Biscombe, if Emmak has sent an address since the parcel went out, could you pm it to me?  I'll also pm everyone as well as posting here.

I'm off again for the weekend in a few hours so will do my best to post before I go once I have an address.  If I can't manage it, they'll be a few days wait cos work hours make getting to a PO difficult.  Sorry that I'm holding everything up  :-[    Hope it doesn't mean people won't want to play with me in future  :( ;D

Ok - all ready to go (and delicious looking  ;D)  OH spent yesterday evening looking puzzled while gamely trying to take an interest, but simply decamped to the sports channel this morning when my seed box came out ready to 'swap in'  ;D ;D  There's only so much a non-grower can take!

Just waiting for the address now and it's back on the road.

Is this already one of the longer running parcels?  Maybe once it gets back to Biscombe we should just keep it circulating  and see what it ends up like - like a chinese whisper!

Heard from Biscombe saying to send the parcel on to the next person on the list.  Emmak - if you get an address to Biscombe, maybe you could get slotted back in a bit further down the list?  It's a fantastic parcel so you don't want to miss out  :)

So, parcel should be on its way soon - check back on the thread to see if it's you  ;D

It's been posted this afternoon and is now on it's way to Barkingdog in Norfolk.

Ah but Flowerlady, I know his game!  He pays an interest in the indoors stuff cos he thinks that counts towards getting off the outdoors stuff  ;D --- and it don't  ;)
