I never grew or ate them before. These are the first ones, they grew faster than the normal red ones (that always make the kitchen look like a bloodbath took place). I'm very curious about the flavor.

No blood? You're learning at last? Like with 'golden'? = Tim

PS Yes - sorry - I've shown it before! And can't make it smaller.

ina

Nothing wrong with the size of your picture Tim, wonderful quality too.
I tried Burpee's golden last year, terrible germination rate. I grow regular beetroots (Egyptian flat), the red/white ringed (choccia) that cooked up very similar to the few Burpees golden I managed to grow last year but had a much better germination rate and these white ones.

tim

Try - like I did this year - germinating them in damp kitchen paper, or whatever. Every one that stuck out a root got planted. No gaps & no thinning. Joy! And they do taste good. = Tim

Well Tim, it's hard to find Burpees golden seeds here and I can get the others easely. I'm happy with what I can get here so why go through the trouble right?
I just tasted the white beetroot and...............just as good as any! Still have to get used to the bland color tho'. I would like to see nice green beetroots or real hard orange, looks better on the plate.

Mrs Ava

I only grew the 'regular' red beets this year, but next year I am going to experiment now that I have discovered how delicious they are roasted, raw and boiled!  ;D

Ina, dear - I'm NOT trying to make everyone go for gold!!

But if you want some, I'll post them.

PS White? Try some turmeric or similar in the water??
PPS For the glut - cover cooked slices with cup vinegar boiled with 1/2 cup raw sugar & seal. Even Emma would like it!!  = Tim

ina

Thanks for the offer Tim but I think I'll wait for the bright green beetroots instead.

tim

Anything for you, dear Ina.

Just had a delivery of a new hybrid which looks promising. Send you a pack?? = Tim

ina

Playing with genes again Tim?
You had Mr. C. and I rolling with laughter, too funny! He didn't even mind me calling him out of the kitchen for this.
Make it two packs please and by air mail hahahaha.
When will you able to manipulate orange beetroots? We need them by March please.
Warm greetings, also from Mr. C.

 ;D ;D
They are great Tim!
Lottie-less until I can afford a house with it's own garden.

tim

Mine to him too, Ina!

No - I would never fiddle with the 'golden', as you know!  I'd better trial the green ones before posting?

I was just going to throw in an old photo of red, white & green toms from HP Photo - only to find that they have fossilised all my 52 photos. = Tim

ina

What a shame. I just posted my red, pink and white beets on the galery.
Did pass on your greetings.
