and lots of jars and bottles for preserving....

I didnt realise that stuff would grow so well in my first year that I would have to consider getting an extra freezer - I keep getting told not to pick more blackberries and elderberries but its irrestistable!!

yes you come home after a day of digging and picking then think hell i,v got to do something with this lot. one oldtimer (male) said "my job is growing it the wife does the rest " as the song goes sometimes it,s hard to be a woman

I did the same, bought a freezer for the garage and I defrosted it in spring, but now it is packed full of soups (courgette and squash), gooseberries, redcurrants, plums, beans, mange tout and I am finding it hard because I have so much more still to put in for the winter.

My favourite thing is to pick blackberries... just doing that these last few days... to make jam mostly but I like to keep the big ones, shake them in sugar (it separates them nicely) and freeze for winter... absolutely lovely to take out at Xmas and have with yoghurt or custard, or even on their own, like little iced, sweet fruits... yum, mouth's watering now!

Dont say ...."these last few days".....surely we've got at least another month of crops yet??? ???

Or am I dreaming?

Where did summer go? ::)

And will we get some recompense from "autumn"? ???
