we've jut been to Yorkshire lavender centre
one of the tips i picked up, sprinkle a little lavender essential oil around the ants nest entrance, apparently, they can't stand the smell  :)

When sun comes out we are plagued by ants, so will try this tip.  Will keep you posted - should the sun appear again!

I've heard the same thing about clove oil.  Add one small bottle of clove oil to a full watering can, one with a rose, and water the affected area.
