At last!!!!!!! Been on the waiting list since Jan 2006. Finally got the letter today. Plot number 10 at one of the two sites we were on the list for.

Looked a little small on the diagram sent by council so went to have a look and its mssive!! Approx 26ft wide and at least 3 or 4 times that in length. Overgrown though, but there seems to be a tleast 4 or 5 beds already in place under the weeds.

Took some photos so will post a couple over the weekend.

Letter from council also said that if overgorwn and plot put back into use the rent for the second year will be waived with only the water charge to pay. So that's a £25 saving nigh on already... :)

Well done. You will enjoy every minute of it. Once you get your first crop off it, all the hard work will have been worthwhile. ;)
If it works, don't knock it!

cambourne7

wow thats like a wildflower jungle!!

I hope you find all sorts of useful stuff burried in amongst it all.

Good look.

saddad

and remember if it supports a good crop of weeds/grass it is in good heart!

What a beatiful plot. It has aload of potential. Now show us what you can do with it. I love a challenge
When I get old I don't want people thinking
"What a sweet little old lady"........
                             I want em saying
"Oh Crap! Whats she up to now ?"

Spookyville

thanks for all the replies folks. Still waiting to hear back from the council (been a week now), want to know when we can officially take it on. itchy fingers  ;D

Spookyville

called them today and contract will be on its way to us this week. Told we can start ont he plot when ever we like. Probably won't be the weekend before we can gert down though..

Other halfs dad has  a petrol strimmer - which would be ideal to take the grass and weeds down to a shorter length. Would this peeve the other plotholders off? Is it some unwriten rule not to use such tools (in case od spreading grass and weed seeds allover) ???

Uncle Joshua

I don't think there will be a rule about using a strimmer, good luck with the plot Spooky it looks great.

cambourne7

If i was you i would strim the whole plot then leave it where it falls over night as it will dry up a little and be easier to rake. The rake it towards there you want your compost bin and then build your compost with layers of what you have stimmed and then a layer of wet paper then another layer of what your strimmed etc...

Jeannine

Good luck, it is all so exciting, you might find treasure under all that lot, watch out for hidden goodies like rhubarb, small fruit bushes ect. Can we have a picture of a strimmed plot by Sunday then,You still have time to plant lots of stuff.

;D keep the pressure on. will post pics as to progress but to be honest prob won't get anything in this year now. still got a dodgy hip from a car accident in January which delayed me doing anything until easter weekend (so lost 4 months there) in the garden, and still playing catchup with it now.  so not going to kill myself or risk further complications with the hip by rushing but it(the lottie) should be much improved by next year :)
