Had an accident when removing the sideshoots :(

Is this salvageable or not? Wondering if another shoot will appear... got plenty of others if not..

A sideshoot will probably come from the next leaf joint down but I'd put in a new plant if you have spares...

My OH sat on one of my Totem's last year and clean snapped off the growing tip.  It just kept on growing !

I have to agree with Saddad, if you have got a spare replace it.
A tip for when you are removing the suckers is to always leave the top one on till the next one grows. The tenderest part of a Tomato plant is the top couple of inches, so if you knock it of you can always allow the sucker to grow on.
Also if you snap the stem and its not completely off you can tape it back together, support it above and below and it will heel itself and grow on.

If you stick the broken-off bit into a pot of compost, it will look a little sickly for a few days and then start growing. The beauty is, it will have the same maturity as the original plant.

Lat year, I couldn't get my toms out when they were ready and as they were growing on a window-sill, they were getting very tall. I lopped the top few inches off each plant and stuck each one in a pot and you wouldn't have known from the resulting fruits that they had had such vivious treatment. You can do the same with the sideshoots you nip out if you want extra plants.

Just remember that the 'cutting' will look sick for a few days!

thanks for the info, one of the lower shoots has started to spurt on up followed by its brother.  ;D

leading me to my next query. this past week they have shot up in the greenhouse and noticed that in some plants the lower set of leaves have "turned" into second (and third) stems and rival the main stem for height. do these need chopping or can you leave for extra fuit??
TIA
