Has anyone else's Asparagus run to fern early?

Noticed a couple had the other day, Tim- going down today to check again. Mind you, they started fruiting early, so maybe it's inevitable.

Yes, Tim, mine is fast going too but we have been picking it for ages,I think it is just because it was very early this year.I am still picking but the slender ones I am letting go.

I guess we just can't have it both ways eh!

I also find a lot of mine are bent- anyone know what causes this? BTW just been to fetch some- still producing but definitely slowing down, but no doubt all the weeds between them don't help!

Bent? Damage at soil level. Physical or bugs. We have that badly at one end of the row.

Ferns? No - essential for feeding the plant. But not yet!!

also got asparagus beetle ,which i dont normally get until its all ferned up,which mine isnt yet.

Mine is bent too. But am picking as quick as possible and it is tasty.
