Made my first ever batch of this last night, from Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall's receipe (I used chicken stock instead of fish):

Have to say that much to my surprise, this was one of the most gorgeous soups I've ever had :o ;D Highly recommended!!

Cheers,
Rob ;)

What I don't understand is that if nettles have enough toxin to sting you, why isn't the soup lethal?

robkb

The heat from the cooking kills the sting. Didn't actually believe this until yesterday, and the first spoonful was quite tentative, but it works!

Well, nothing ventured  - will have to have a nettle picking expedition next time we're in the country don't want people to think I'm a scaredy cat  ;D

Go for it - you won't regret it!

It is ab-fab, and medicinal too!

For long years here in Ireland Nettel soup was the first port of call when one was sick.

No need to add much of anything else but be sure to make it using only the newest growth on the nettle "bush!"
If you have a burning desire to add something, remember, "things that grow together, go together"

Dont forget the marigolds too when you go out picking it! Nettle blisters will most definately take from the enjoyment.
