As the weather has been so dry, can i still plant seeds into my allotment and transplant my beans and peas. Sorry if this is a silly question. I only ask as i am getting conflicting advice from fellow allotment holders.

For seeds, water well first. Then sow.

For plants, soak them, plant & water in.

Thanks, my head was starting to hurt. ???

If the soil is capped and hard then most seedlings won't come through. If you can water a seed drill, (water on site?) then cover with fleece to stop it drying out that would be ok. Peas and Beans have good long roots if you dig and water into the holes then backfill they should root into the lwere soil which will still be quite damp..

Yes. If the soil is dry, water any transplants really well. But don't let lack of rain put you off.

I have sown some seed ,radish,, beetroot, lettuce french marigolds ,but I did give the drill a good water first
and will continue to do so.

If you water afterwards, you run the risk of washing the seeds away. Or, at least, messing up their spacing.

If you go on holiday for a fortnight and come back, we will have hopefully had some rain. You can then sow everything incuding peas and beans and still get a great crop.
If we have still not had any rain in two weeks, then that will be a month without and we are all going to be in trouble!
I have started putting mulch over as much as I can to preserve moisture.

The temperature forecast for Liverpool this Saturday is 22 degrees celcius!
