Hello

my onion seed and pepper seeds have germinated in the heated propagator. When is the best time to move them out, as I need the space again? They will be in the conservatory, which will be unheated at night. Any suggestions?

hiya, caroline, I think the peppers will need heat for a bit longer, I think you'll be safe with the onions, anyone else ?

Can you rig up some sort of coldframe / cloche in the the conservatory it doesn't have to be anything too elaborate then at night light a 'nightlight' and put it under the cover. This should maintain a reasonable temperature in the enclosed space.

For safety reasons (fire) I have found denting a bean can (or similar)  to stop it rolling about, lay the can on its side (dent down) and put the nightlight in this. The tin heats up and becomes a mini radiator. n.b.If you have a wood floor sit the can on a brick.

Another thing I have seen that works as well is an enclosure like I have just described  is to  put a 'lead lamp' under the cover. The bulb will emit probably enough heat to keep you stuff ticking over.

I would say its best to keep the peppers indoors but the onions should be okay in the conservatory

Ideally, they are only in the propagator to germinate at 70F or so.
Then elsewhere at 'not less than 60F' for Peppers, but NEED LIGHT!! If they stay overlong in more than 60F, with low light, they'll get impossibly leggy.
