Allotments 4 All

Went on a skip raid last night, first was a builder's skip outside a shop refurb - found 3 full length scaff boards and assorted lengths of 2x2.  Next was another commercial skip used by a small firm that does loft & basement conversions - struck gold there, pulled out dozens of decking type joists, enough for the greenhouse base.   ;D ;D

Now I just need to find the time to do it all and I don't think I'll find that in a skip ;)

i am not allowed have any more wood on the site - husband will kill me.

there is also a pile of chipboard and some 1x1 6ft poles & tree posts about 20.

Yes you do seem to have rather a lot there already cambourne lol! BTW have you been away for your chilly weekend yet? kitten x

Yes, well you dont know when you are going to be offered any more so take while you can :-)

The long bits i am going to make a seat with and make some frames over the raised beds to add netting/plastic/fleese to.

Regarding holiday, almost ready.

I still need to pack, but almost everything is now washed that i need to bring.

insurance booked, car booked in to parking, picking money up tonight, christmas cards for abroad written and will be posted tonight.

ERR oh yes suitcases and hand luggage measured to make sure they meet new regulations. Found zip bag for toiletrys i am taking on as had luggage. Have christmas shopping list done for when i get back in the UK and France (3 days after we get back) and just need to work out what to wear at christmas party 2 days after i get back.

.... I have also arranged for neighbours to put out wheely bin, and i have a friend with a spare key just in case. Another allotment holder is going to make sure my plot makes it though the winds....

... cooking large lasagna tonight and will freeze 2 portions for dinner the day after we get back so we dont need to cook and can get early night. I changed the sheets on the bed last night so they will be fresh ish when we get home.

...washing machine repair man booked in day after we get back....

.. meeting at 2pm today to hand over work to boss for a week....

....errr

just need to pick up some stuff in boots when i get to duty free area tomorrow, i need to amend central heating timer for when were away ( will do tomorrow ).

PHEW! still feel like i have missed something.

I had to hire a skip and spent all day filling it with patio slabs, (horrible b&q ones)
next morning it was empty. It must have taken them all night. Bonus! on the next morning as somebody had put an old mower in it. I tried it out and it worked. So sharpened the blade and it is still going strong and is ideal for rough areas, even though it uses a bit of oil.

:D I'd of had the slabs for my allotment nice stepping stones.   ;D ;D ;D ;D

If you have got room for stepping stones, you also have room for more plants.

:)I don't have paths Ace so I just have stepping stones and move them around, saves all that time trimming and shaping grass paths. Sadad joy ;D found a skip in the next road on the way to work mind you it was too dark to see what was in it will investigate further.  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Long peices of wood are always useful and one of the hardest things to find.

I recently found lots of lengths of plastic electric conduit which might make good supports for strawberry nets next spring.

On the side of my tool shed above my water barrels I have three huge metal triangle brackets that act as a tidy wood store. I found those in a skip.

I`m very good at transporting things by bike as thats all I usually have.
I like to vary my route to and from the allotments so I can spot where work is being done.

Ah, I'd kill for slabs! ;D  There are some concrete ones in a skip on the road over from me... just gotta work out how to get them! I have an old pram (intended as a wheelbarrow for the allotment, but then someone gave me a wheelbarrow) so might go grab them one at a time. Heh.

Struck gold this morning ;D ;D ;D: 2 scaffolding boards, 2 10Ft fence posts and a nearly new joist!

 Eight 12ft scaffolding planks this morning: one of our neighbour's (who's been building for 4 years ??? ) scaffolder has gone bust and done a runner, so he said he'd leave the planks by his skip and I could have them if I wanted. Still more to come I hope. :)
Now I just need a decent saw, having bent my last one. Are hand electric circulars any good?
