they look scrumptious - did you eat those nice looking leaves too? :D

lorna

Georgie. They look great. Did you grow them in pots/tubs? I must try again next year I love beetroot.

Georgie

Thanks both.  Er, didn't realise you could eat the leaves, SS!    ::)  Yes Lorna, those were grown in pots, one plant per 5" pot.  My earlier crop was grown in the border and there was no noticeable difference in size.  But as beetroot is perfectly happy in shady spots, growing it in smallish pots between other larger pots has many benefits.   :)

Georgie. Good!! I have earmarked the path under my bedroom window to grow veg in pots next year. I am sure it will be more attractive than a plain old concrete path.

Jennym once posted that she left a few beet in the ground over winter so's she could have salad leaves. Better start off some more then G ;)

Georgie

Good idea, Lorna, what are you going to grow?

SS, can beetroot tolerate tempertures down to freezing?  Only in a cold snap last year some of my pots were frozen!

Georgie. Definitely beetroot. I thought carrots as I like them raw (not cooked) also would like to try a few pots.I reckon I have got enough room for six large tubs or quite a few more if I use smaller pots.

Georgie

Sounds good to me, Lorna.   :)

When pickling use an egg slicer to slice it up.Much quicker easier and a lot less messy.
