Oh dear OO, is that the consuming of (Ican't use them either-lactose intolerance) or the making of ? If it's the latter, can I help?

I can make it - its all working just fine - in fact its more than tripled in size but i really cant stomach the taste... I know its just me I'm wierd wherever milk is concerned. It has to taste like milk or i cant drink it... cant even drink tea or coffee in spain coz the milk tastes funny. I did try it though but am now wasting more milking keeping the grains alive!

I also have a glass full  of spare in the fridge. A daughter drinks it and it does seem to help her gut problems, but it do grow, don't it . I only change the milk once a week on spare grains, using the minimum.
Think they may go down the drain......................... :-[

So, what do you do with these?  I was interested that you mentioned they aid gut problems.  Would they help with IBS?

I know nothing about these so any advice would be brilliant

Emagggie

As I understand it, it is a probiotic made with milk and the grains.
Daughter has IBS, and she does say it helps with the symtoms. It has a yoghurt taste.Try this site,BBB.   www.spiritualpath.co.uk/html/milk_kefir.html.
If you want to have a go,Oliveoil has spare grains she would like to pass on.

I have been using kefir grains and they are brilliant, very versatile in cooking.
The drink if used early is not too sour,
I have used it in casseroles, curries, quiches, sweetened as a dessert accompaniment and even made soft cheese which is great in baked cheesecake.
So as well as the probiotic use a really handy addition to the kitchen.

They've gone now - sorry - i opened the fridge door and felt ill from the smell... i have a funny stomach at the moment (no i'm not pregnant LOL) but couldnt stand it any longer so i have given them to a neighbour!

supersprout

I am getting a bit confused.  A very kind man I met on another forum sent me some in a plastic bag and he said it would take a few days to start to work. But, it was a sort of  piece of yoghurt. Therefore, why is it called grains?  I did put it in milk (skimmed) but did not put it in the frige (should I have?). Anyway, no one fancied trying it and it did not multiply much so I had to throw it away. I wanted it for my son's funny tummy (he's 46!)

Tell your son to sort himself out LOL! He's a big boy now!

Not sure why its called grains. And it takes about 2 weeks to multiply! You are best leaving the grains in the cupboard rather than the fridge - putting it in the fridge slows the grows and hibernates it kinda!  Also better off usuing full fat or semi skimmed, not skimmed.  Unfotunately i couldnt stomach it either... whats wrong with your sons tummy I may ahve another idea to help.
