Allotments 4 All

Lifted my first carrot today and munched it with my wife.  It was great and a really good size too.  Loads of veg is growing really well and the cabbages look great.



Tomatoes have started to grow and i have 7 growing on one stem!  These are the Shirly ones and should be good.





The Big Boy toms haven't yet started but looks like one is getting ready and the Tumbles have around 4 growing.

I even bought a Money Maker plant from B&Q and planted it yesterday. 

Is it just me or is growing tomatoes addictive!!! ???

OK what else...?

Lettuce is great and we have almost finished out first batch of 20!!!  (given to friends and family)   The ones in the picture are "All the year round" and are much nicer and look great too.

Yes Chris, growing tomoatoes is addictive, growing any veg come to that, the people that don't do it don't know what they are missing!  The more I grow the more I want to grow and this year all my family are enjoying the pickings, even my lads are raving over new potatoes when they hated them before.

your swedes are thicker than my swedes  :'(  i shall go and talk nicely to mine.   ;D

this is the nicest thing i've been addicted to for a long time Chris !  although my beetroot was a bit bland today, just the fact i'd grown it and had a bit of celery with it for my tea, i was well chuffed.

I can't wait for next year to grow some different toms.  i'm a bit gutted i only chose to grow two varieties this year !!

Fab pics Chris, so jealous of your swedes!  I have never had any success with them, but I keep trying!

Mrs, why was your beety bland?  Did you boil it, roast it or munch it raw?

boiled it and had it cold ..........maybe that's just what beet is like (never had it un-pickled before !!!) but perhaps i boiled it to death !

erm stupid question no. 874 ......... how do you prepare it to have it raw ?  peel and grate/chop/slice ???  Just that the skin seemed a bit tough to try and peel it !

They peel fine with a spud peeler, and I grate them into salad, slice suuuuper thin in sandwhiches, and have been known with the smaller ones, to peel them and eat them like an apple!

Try roasting them in foil, with a drizzle of olive oil and a sprinkle of sea salt - wrap them and give them an hour or so, like you would a spud.  Delicious!

i've bags more so will ring the changes and roast them next time ! all these things i'm growing that i've never had from fresh before !!!!  it's quite sad really, but better late than never !!!

All your produce is looking brilliant Chris!  Everything is in fine condition.  I envy you your carrots, as I didn't get around to sowing any at the lottie this year,  only a small barrel at home was sowed. busy_lizzie

Wow, thanks for posting the pictures. It helps us beginners have a better idea what the swedes are suppose to look like!!

This is my first ever attempt at growing veg.  I always wanted a big garden for my telescope and veg and now that we have moved I have it.

Its a lot of fun and the dirt must be of really good quality.
