Top Tip is to learn to identify your weeds before you pull them up.

The neighbours had a loads encroaching through my fence which i dutifully pulled without complaining.................. their side is in flower now !  Alstromeria !!!!

d**n d**n and Double d**n.  On the upside, my weeding wasn't that good and I've got some too.

Oh I much prefer yours kaypee! :o Never seen that colour before in an alstroemeria! I used to weed them out of the flowerbed for my mum, they are horribly invasive, but they were the orange ones - I'd welcome yours any day ;D

ain't we strange folk !!!  lol

got mine from that horticultural emporium B&Q a couple of summers ago, and they weren't cheap either !!!

then i saw a front page spread of scarlet ones "Flaming Star" on the cover of ......... wait for it July 2005 Garden Answers mag (which i have just pulled out and looked at)  :P, and the scarlet ones look stunning.

My one is called "Angelina" if you're interested.

Do they grow from corms KP? If so, wouldn't mind some of your neighbours.....can do you a swap for some of my bluebells?

MrsKP

and what's wrong with mine !   :-[

When's best to dig them up ?  After they've died off presumably.  I'll have a dig about.

 :o (that's shocked AND speechless - congrats KP, you've scored a first, ever ;D)

Yes please, dig em up with their foliage as they're dying back & leave them to dry off like onions/garlic and then save them til we meet. You want some bluebells if I can find some bulbs? They're English, you know....none of that Foreign muck here in B-B Bournville  8)

MrsKP

would be fantastic my dear, got nothing against the Spanish you know, but i'd far rather have English ones !!! oh and make sure they're blue !  Again, nothing against white or pink but i do have this vision of a BLUE bell wood in my front paddock.

Got some BB seed here but looks a hellova complicated, might just chuck em in under the hedge and see what happens.

i'll definitely get you some of THEIR Alstromerias though, dead of night, balaclava, torch !  (oh i forgot, there's some over my side lol.  Actually even the ones on my side are the upstairs neighbours, but as i've so luvvingly tended and weeded their garden, i feel payment is due!  while i'm there i'll get some for me too  ;D

It's so easy to tell a weed from a plant....................................a plant is something which I planted, and hoped would grow...........................a weed is something which is growing really well!!!!!

So true... Gardeners always plant things that aren't really at home, or there would be no need to plant them... I have some ligtu hybrids but they never flower....
Nigella has weed status on our bottom allotments, and don't get me started on Teasles... finally got rid of the corn cockle though... new weed of the season is Salsify.. wind born seeds like dandelions...

several people have asked me what they were and I've had to own up.. can go gathering roots though!

Hyacinth

lovely flower, lovely plant, lovely root! - more here:-
