I have just picked the first of my chantenay carrots and they were delicious.  I am a bit confused though.  Instead of being a uniform orange colour, they ranged in colour from a dark orange to pure white (and all shades in between).  They tasted okay but I wondered why this might have happened.  It has never happened to me before.

Did you save them yourself or buy them?

Bought them - Unwins Chantenay Red Cored 2

some seed companies sell rainbow mix carrots, ranging from white to yellow to orange, perhaps some seed got mislabelled.

I was beginning to wonder if that might have happened - can't think of any other explanation.

My Chantenay have all turned out orange so it would seem you have some rogue seeds.

Seems like this is happening more and more with seed companies.  Isn't very good really is it!

So chanteray red cored don't actually have red cores?  I grew some this year and when i pulled them up was disappointed to find that they were orange - is it just me that has been fooled?!?!? ??? ;D
Thank you to all who donated to the Moonlight Half Marathon Walk in aid of St Catherine's Hospice - my mum and I raised just over £300!!!    ............     Thanks!  :-)

I discovered last year that giant red is neither giant nor red.
