Just to show you some of the colours of Chard 'Bright Lights'.  The colours will get better as the plants mature, they are still only babies planted just about 6 weeks ago.

Looks lovely. I've never tried chard before, so if you excuse my ignorance could you tell me what you do with it and what it tastes like?

Mrs Ava

It tastes similar to spinach, but has a slightly earthier flavour.  The thick stems are cooked seperately and are delicious.  I steam them and have them with sauces or butter - fab!  The leaves hold their shape when cooked and are great used as rolls for things like dolmades.  I prefer it to spinach personally, it doesn't bolt in hot weather, holds throughout the winter and can be hacked back to the ground, and it rewards you with flush after flush of soft fresh growth.

Thanks for that Emma Jane. I may try it next year. :)

They look gorgeous EJ - I'm very envious as I'd decided to try Leaf Beet first instead this year and it ran to seed immediately in the hot spell - now waiting for the chard I sowed a week or so ago. I love Chard, its so useful in the kitchen.  :D
