to fret about my seedlings?

a the moment I am sitting at work, supposedly cataloguing books, but my mind is very definitely at home in the garden ...

i moved the courgettes and tomatoes out of the greenhouse this morning so they wouldn't get too hot and could start hardening off, but one of my courgette plants is a bit lanky and not really upright, and another one's seed leaves is going manky, and their compost is rather soggy as I stood them in water yesterday so they wouldn't dry out in the greenhouse so now I am worried about damping off ... and the tomatoes are still so small, but one of them (out of 50) looks like its leaves are deformed, and another couple look a bit scorched round the edges ... and I left the basil, two big chilli plants and some leek seedlings in a shady bit of the grrenhouse, but it is going to be very hot today and I don't know what temperature it gets up to in there ...

and these are only plants!! what am i going to be like if i ever have children??!  ::)

Absolutley  yes. I do try to make sure no one is around when I talk to them. And there is my robin that pops in for a chat.....

totally normal. I woke up at 5am this morning fretting about loads of stuff I potted on last night-  will they  be OK? What if they all make it? how will I manage to fit everything in on the plot (not good at this rationalisation of seedlings - find "thinning out" quite traumatic!)

Still never ceases to amaze me that plants grow from such tiny seeds... how does everything they need fit into a spec of dust sized seed (e.g. begonia)... getting a bit too philosophical now..........  :-[

Perfectly normal - I'm sitting at my desk cataloguing books too - and constantly thinking about the garden - what needs potting on /hardening off/ sowing etc etc - much rather be in the polytunnel!  :D

& how it knows how to form leaves, roots etc.  basic biology I know, but it is amazing. And when it manages to produce bits for us to much on....

At times I feel like a grandparent!

I actually had a dream in which I had left the coldframe closed and all my plants had fried. I woke up sweating and it took me a while to relaise i wasn't real.

My specialty is convincing myself that some particular seeds will not germinate, I am very impatient.

Me too, Daisymae, I hate thinning out; feel like a murderer! I always try to re-pot any thinnings where possible. Could also be that i'm too tight and hate the thought of wasting a perfectly good plant.

my oh is convinced i care more about the plants than him ( not quite but very very close  ;D ) bringing them in  watering them  talking to them  :P moving them out of too much sun potting on taking them out sowing he says I'm mad ???  but i know i am

Many veggie seedlings make great salads (not Toms/Pots or other solanums!) the ones you don't prick out can make a nice salad in your lunch box!

Would you believe it!!? I have been in the garden/greenhouse nearly all day. Now going to relax by having a look at A4A.. Yeah!! a post has just reminded me I have left some seedlings in a tray to get water... Back in five minutes ;D ::) ::)

totally normal sally.  i hate being at work and rush home every night to see how all my children have coped without me during the day.

i am currently mourning the loss of 6 runner bean seedlings, and staring at the new brood willing them to poke their heads through.

as posted on another thread, i was desolate when someone snapped the top off one of my toms, but am more than relieved to see that despite attempted murder, it's still the beefiest of the crop and doing fine now.

isn't that normal ???   ;D

either it's perfectly normal or you have lots of friends joining you in the madness ;D

I was woken up in the night by my 3 year old screaming at the side of my bed... i couldn't deal with him because my brain was all fuzzy and full of visions of my beautiful, lush green, 30  chiilli pepper babies growing away on the kitchen window sill.  I was so disorientated that i had to get dh to sort him out.  :-[

progress report - one mouldy courgette (out of 8 - don't think we would eat that many courgettes really anyway) and all tomatoes going well. First chillis appearing on the thai dragon plant (terrible moment a few weeks ago when the flowers kept dropping off - nearly sent me over the edge), basil repotted and looking ok, and leeks looking like pathetic floppy grass (am ignoring them and hoping that they will toughen up to get my attention) 2 courgettes and 1 pumpkin planted out in a new raised bed under plastic cloches (thank you OH!) with flower pots at each end to scare off slugs and other beasties.

all is well, but the weather forecast for the next week is dire - snow! snow! in may! in the south east! outrageous!

ah well, more sleepless nights.
