I know i should be grateful for rain...but it's the third day of solid rain here in Leicester!  I'm desperate to get down to my lotty and the kids are desperate to get out too!

When will it stop!

Bah! I would kill for rain. The ground's so dry down at my Suffolk lottie that digging takes twice as long (and is twice as hard!)
If at first you don't succeed, destroy all evidence that you tried.

Would like some rain here in Surrey too  :(

:(

It's not fair is it? I am thinking about digging a soakaway on a part of my plot cos it's never going to dry out on its own!

Wonder where the perfect growing place is in this country? Any suggestions? I may be moving...lol

;)

me too - i'm just down the road from you marjrie.

i found out today that a guy on my site has dug his own well!

there's a  large stream in the woods over the back and we're in it's flood plain - hence all the are sheds on legs in certain areas.

he dug down to the water table and now has his own supply.

today's predicted full day of sunshine started midway through the afternoon once the cloud at burned off and hardly any wind.  got the roof on the g/h with just a few bits to finish up here and there so it should be sturdy enough for ............................. heavy rain tomorrow and 19mph winds !!! yeeeeeehaaaaaaaa!

let's hope all the heavy pots and wheely bins keep it in place while i'm busy digging and levelling the ground for the base with my waterproofs on.

rain ?  pah !  i laugh at rain.

You can't please all of the people all of the time, but you can't upset them all at once either.

Flossie it is so true Monday will see me crying all the way to work in the sun likely.

I spend rainy days in the potting shed with a million plant-pots, seeds and seedlings (and a radio!) I get my tape measure out and say "AHA LITTLE SEEDLING! YOU HAVE GROWN YET ANOTHER MILLIMETRE ... I WILL NOW PUT YOU IN AN EVEN BIGGER POT THAN I PUT YOU IN YESTERDAY ..... STATUS QUO (in answer to pop-quiz question on the radio!)"

It kills time  ;D

lmao Trixiebelle.  alas i have no batteries  :'( so i've had to pop in to see how many goals my team have let in today.  answer = 0 !!!!!!  but don't worry give us time.

all the lillies have now been put in the windbreak with a roof (aka g/h with no doors) and  i'm hoping the mini-greenhouse seedlings are using the vibration method to strenghten their roots as it is very gusty out there.

and mrs bee is having to use all her hovvering powers to land safely.

;D

I just hope you are all having a glorious day like we are having.. Spent 4hours out there, have put all the runner bean canes up, sown lettuce carrots. Had a good tidy up but then back started playing up (poor old thing!!) so then transferred to greenhouse to plant up some more hanging baskets and tubs. It really has been a lovely day sun still shining.

So hot today, that it was actually too hot  :o had to wait till late afternoon for it to cool down before I could do some digging... spent whole day in t-shirt (which for me means it is hot!)  tomorrow is due to rain... I'll believe it when I see it...

Alimo

Fantastic day here - full day out in the garden and veggie plot.  More to sort tomorrow - but talk of rain, which is good for the garden - not so good for me.

Hey Mat - it's raining!!

MrsKP

hee hee hee for once the forecasters were right.

it's been an absolute belter of a day today, t-shirt weather all day and sun so bright i've had to close the blinds to see the screen.

i hope for everyone who needs it that you've had torrential rain but i'm sorry (no i'm not) i've had the most glorious time out in a bright and very warm sun.  I actually managed to take the polytunnel cloche off the broadies and found masses of growth so i was well pleased with that, and i got more onions in some mixed lettuce leaves and radishes.  dug over the ground to level where the g/h will be placed and gave everything a good soaking.

and best of all - WE FINISHED THE GREENHOUSE !!!!!!  ok it's still sitting on the patio at the moment but i've got it crammed to the gunnels with most stuff out of the spare room and i've managed to put the ironing board away in the lounge. and  since taking this pic, i've even managed to get a hanging basket hooked to a hole in the roof with no major strut disturbance whatsoever.   ;D

oh how i've missed the sun and we've got more of the same tomorrow, so that should give everything time to settle before the heavy rain returns on Wednesday.

and i rescued the beetle having decided he'd done enough lenghts in the bucket for one day  ;D

We've had a beautiful day too.  Went and lottied for a couple of hours earlier on.  Shifted our pretty newly-made compost heap from the middle of the beds to the area obviously built for composting we excavated from behind a load of timber.  Found that said compost must have been pretty hot, because it's almost ready for digging back in.  Luvverly.  :)

Funniest thing there was that last week I had installed a bamboo wigwam for my bean plants and a netted climbing frame for my peas, all of which are growing madly in pots in the mini-greenhouses at home waiting to be planted.  The chap whose allotment we are sharing must have thought I'd planted seeds there, because he'd watered them for me.  Isn't that sweet?  And isn't he going to be amazed when he gets there one day to find suddenly-sprouted plants in the ground!  ;)

Our greenhouse (same size) is built.  Now it just needs glazed.  That'll be fun!  ::)
Tread softly, for you tread on my greens.

Hey Mat - it's raining!!

Hey, where?  ???  :D we have had some drizzle here today... I still haven't discovered rain yet  ::)  it's certainly not yet been sufficient to really wet the soil; once I removed the top suface, it was dry about 3mm down!!!  Just got home from lottie and I hope it rains more tonight.

No doubt now I am "complaining" I will get a really wet summer and floods next winter...
