Allotments 4 All

I am a very very very chuffed lottie holder. My wonderful husband came home on Friday with the works van and said that they had been gettting rid of some packing crates and he had thought of me and the lottie.  I was not overly excited until I saw them!

They are amazing 4 sided bottomless crates.  They have hinges on the corners so fold flat if not required and are absolutely perfect for making instant raised beds.  They are quite high so I have spent all afternoon digging them in a bit and topping them up with some compost.  I had quite a big bit of my half lottie unused and despaired of ever getting it ready for planting (even after 3 years!) but now - hey presto - loads of planting space.  Even given a whole 'box' to my son to do what he wants with.  Think this is worth a fair few scavenging points?!  ;D

I have a couple spare so if anyone is in the Worcester area let me know.

Mine is always visiting building sites through his job and won't scavenge anything for me. :'(

Hi, love the crates, I have been getting crates from a plumbers merchant but they are a lot narrower. I would love some of the ones you have, any ideas where I could get some from ;D

I have seen similar items dumped at my local industrial estate, but have no car so have not taken them. They had been used to slot over pallets loaded with car batteries, so they do not get knocked in transit.

Those are fantastic!  I am well jealous.  I might go driving round some industrial estates to see if I can spot any lying around!

I don't know where the come from originally but I think they were used for stacking on top of each other (hence metal 'spikes' in the corners). 

If anyone wants any I have a few left (probably about 6) of them - only problem is they are here is sunny Worcester!  ;D  PM me if you want to have them and can collect.

Mine are called 'pallet collars' and stack on top of each other to form a crate. It is actually worth going to work sometimes after all!

Am absolutely mad jealous, as am about to spend Easter weekend constructing those very things! Like Chuff,  I want to know where these things come from! I know some one said for packing car batteries, but are there any other sources?

Recycling being the key word I'm afraid. I've just had a look at the manufacturers websites and came up with a price of £25 for one pallet with sides. Keep looking on your local industrial estates would be my advice.
