I have heard that strawberry plant mutliply each year with runners and are easy to propogate.  I purchased six 'dormant' plants from 'Woolies' a couple of weeks ago but when my little girl and I planted them last week the roots were all 'mushy' and tightly restrained with elastic bands (code for dead).

I know that I should have taken them back, but we didn't have the receipt....and the exchange offered was more sorry looking 'dead' plants.

I am also so naive that I don't know if this is the right time of year or not??

Does anyone have any strawberry 'runners' or 'baby plants' to swap for squash seeds (or most things really - I have a seed habit!!!)  Please let me know what you would like.
Regards
Ann

Hi purple sprouting,
I dont mean to doubt you ,are you sure they are dead?
I bought some bare root strawberry plants a few months ago from a local
nursery and thought they were dead too.

I put them in a grow bag anyway and kept them watered, and at the beginning of this week I noticed that 1/2 of them are starting to show some small buds.

I'd plant them anyway, and see what happens ;)

All the best

I may have some, and I need to make some space for some alpine strawberries citychick kindly sent me.  Would probably send them the same way, bare rooted and roots wrapped in damp paper towel.  PM if you want some...
