Allotments 4 All

Today I disturbed a couple of field mice that were hiding under a long forgotten compost heap. I think they live in a tunnel thats been dug nearby under a bathtub I use as a water butt. Anyway the compost heap and its immediate surroundings were littered with dozens of snail shells-a snail graveyard or killing fields? I now mice are not really desirable on a plot but if they`re killing snails and slugs should I encourage them to some extent - the plots are full of cats and kessies which have clearly kept them down so far. Any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks in advance.

I know wood mice will eat snails worms & other things when seeds are in short supply.
And they do look like field mice

Mice are quite omnivorous so it's quite likely, but there are plenty of other things that eat snails as well.

I think they do. I have found the same evidence - piles of shells in an old compost store and cold frame next to each other and I have found a dead mouse in the same place a few days ago.

I don`t think they need encouragement they`ll always be around.
I prefer to encourage frogs, toads and birds rather than rodents.
