I thought i would share what i saw today.  i was watching a pair of crows earlier, one seems to be gently grooming the other, then the one being groomed slowly moved to one side and flew off, the crow that was left watched  his mate fly off, and when he couldn't turn his neck any further one way he wizzed it round to carry on looking in the direction his mate flew off.   He then flew off after her. 

It was so lovely to watch.  We often get crows round here, but i have never seen them behave in this manner, they really looked  like they were in love.  I will certainly appreciate these crows a  little more in future.

Does anyone know if crows mate for life?

Don't know - but our collared doves get all soppy, too!

I'm just waiting for the rook's to move in, about now they start trying to nest in our loft and chimney - they make such a racket in the mornings... Last year they were evicted three times before they got the message.

I wonder do you have Jackdaws. They are happy to nest in chimneys . Rooks always build nests in trees.

I'm pretty sure they're rooks but i could be wrong, they always scarper when i appear to turf them out, there's loads of rooks nesting in the tree's in our garden - i think when the hotel gets full the overflow move's onto and into the house.

Bloomin pigeons wont be far behind them either, they nest in the ivy that climbs up the wall outside the bedroom window, hoiking the nest out as soon as they arrive with a broom handle normally sorts them though.

I've an enduring image in my head... I once saw a rook flying after it's mate with a daffodil in it's beak !

Not quite so enamoured of the crows as some of you seem to be. ;)They were screaming sweet nothings at each other on our bedroom roof at 5.30 this morning. Then some rival talent appeared and they started fighting instead. ::)

I love crows, rooks and ravens  :) When he was a nipper my dad had a tame crow (and a magpie and a barn owl) Not very PC in this day and age but he's turned into a professional 'twitcher' and wouldn't even consider keeping a budgie these days  ;D

GRAWC: I know how you feel about birds on the roof @ 5:30 in the morning ... I have a love hate relationship with 2 woodpigeons at the moment that I SWEAR have been sent to torture me SLOOOOOOOOOOOOWLY  ::)

SARAH! I've just has to draw that concept on a piece of paper and I think I know what he means  ;D

What does he say about ravens?!?

nothing about ravens sadly but he can tell the difference between a weasle and a stoat. "ones weasly recognisable and the other stoatly different."  ;)
