Can anyone help with some suggestions please

Every year, I grow marmande outside (which usually get blight), and big boy and a cherry type (last year tropical ruby) in the greenhouse

This year I cannot get hold of tropical ruby, so is there an alternative cherry sized greenhouse plum about?

Do I give moneymaker a go this year as a substitute for the larger types  - I want something that will grow in and out that will give me toms about the size of a satsuma

You might like to try Santa F1 - this is a cherry plum tomato - actually grew it outside last year, but think it's really a greenhouse type. Don't grow the very large toms so can't advise there.

How do outside grown toms compare with the taste from greenhouse toms

Its been said that you cannot get better taste than toms grown in a greenhouse

How long's a piece of string? We're talking of a cold house?

There are SO many excellent options - & everyone will have a different opinion.

But for a plum cherry, Santa - yes! See (what you can!) below. Useful in the freezer.

Simpsons' Del series have become very popular cherries. Their John Hawkins is a great beefy type. Nectar, a bit bigger than a cherry, was great last year.

Palla di Fuocco - Real Seed Co - a productive bush but we grew it indoors.

Both have helpful websites. Won't go on!!

Flavour Debs? Could it be that the bloom stays on indoor varieties better?

I've bought a hopeless amount of different tom seeds just to see how they grow and to try to find what's best for me. What's the best indoor and outdoor toms for flavour? (I'll be in a competition with the pub plot next door, and there's about eight of them with lots of time to garden, so no hope of beating them on yield - plus there's only one of me :D)

First - what have you got??

Much can depend upon how they are grown. For instance - you are supposed to limit water with Cherries for the best flavour. I can never bring myself to do that. Life's difficult enough with regular watering! Outdoors ? - Cambs - good - what would be their local situation.

Good soil, open site, sheltered slightly by trees, shed, full sun. Can't remember name of varieties I have already - definitely Harbinger and an heirloom plum given free by HDRA. I just wondered if you knew of a variety that made you gibber with delight when eaten :).

Wouldn't bother with moneymaker Loz, when there are so many other wonderful toms about.  I grow to many to suggest a type, but whites are my thing this year as they are so much sweeter, and the skin seems to be non existant!

Last  year I grew massive tomatoes :
Red Pear
Palla di Fuocco
San Marzano 2
Costoloto Fiorentino
Cour di Bue
Lambada

Got them from Seeds of Italy (except Lambada).....and they all had a really wonderful taste. Started early sowings and was picking from June right through to November ;D

Like spuds you will get 1001 different ideas for toms

Last year San Marzona did well both under cover and outside but the best success was Ferline. If blight is a problem on your plot then I recommend this tomato as I was about the only one picking toms in September on our plots, everyone else suffered from blight both under cover and outside.

There is a new one with blight resistance this year called Legend as well.

agapanthus - our Fiorentino never got beyond deep orange - how about yours?

Shirley to impress..Moneymaker for uniformity in size(usually)..But for taste I like Alicante..  I know it isn't  a favorite of some... Jim.

Santa is good- would say more but I need to lie down in a dark and quiet room  after seeing `MoneyMaker` ;D

I have been trying about 40 varietys a year from all over the world and so far the top 5 have been :-

1. Tigerella ... good taste and reliable
2. gardeners delight ...... easy to grow and good taste
3. Pink brandy wine ... looks odd but wonderful flavor
4. Ferline .... nice outside and blight resistant.
5. Sweet olive.... small cherry plum, sweet and juicy :)

Just sown 400 seeds all of varietys i have not grown before appart from the above which are my regular ones.
Flavour can be altered by the amount of water you give.

Tim...trying to remeber but am sure they all turned red :)

My fave toms for stop you in your tracks taste are,

3.Morden Yellow

I grew Legend as part of a HDRA trial mine still got blight!
