Not sure who saw tonight’s TV program but I nearly jump out of my seat when I saw his “Vegetable Scarecrow” which included arms made from a ribbed courgette.

My father used to grow this courgette and I have always thought it to be one of the best for flavour but have failed to date  to identify it. It produces fairly large fruit that have very pronounced ribs that run along it. Slightly curved and very sweet when fried.

If anyone saw the program and knows the variety of it I would be very grateful.

Thanks

Mrs Ava

I saw it....but alas don't know the name.  Would it not be worth asking on the River Cottage website??

Derekthefox

Once identified, is this something else to add to my burgeoning seed list ...  ;D

Thanks all.

As I post on the River Cottage Forum I have already asked there and emailed Hugh's team direct. I hope I get a reply and will ley you know if I do.

It really is a lovely courgette, slightly drier than many but great flavour steamed, fried or grilled. The ribs also make it stand out on the plate too.

And to close the thread, I have recieved confirmation that this is indeed the courgette I am looking for. This came direct from the horses mouth so to speak!

vegetables? or curry? or both? I am a definite curryaholic .... well I must be having made 30 litres of curry sauce for the freezer ...  ;D

Definitely both.

Ours was a simple affair tonight: red lentils, leek, onion, elephant garlic & herbs & spices. With rice and sweetcorn. Even the 1 year old enjoyed it.

Funny I should be reading this, I am just polishing off a bowl of curry with extra chillies, raw onions and prawns. Oh and rice of course ...

Just what I need for my cold (or man flu as lottie calls it  ;D).

Derekthefox

Yes, it definitely cut through all that gunge and feverishness. Mind you, raw onion takes few prisoners I believe ...
