Will cabbages (e.g. Greyhound and Wheeler's Imperial) stand on the plot during winter or will the frost kill them?  It is about the only veg I have got to get me through the cold dark months so I do not want to have to dig them all and eat them now.

As long as the winter is not to severe they will be ok,once spring arrives give them some fertilizer and an hoeing and they will soon pick up.

Funny - I always thought that pointed hearting cabbages were 'soft'. But both those seem to say 'hardy'. I have a problem even with Tundra, which is supposed to stand anything.

If worried, just cover with double fleece?

I think the idea Tim is not to get them planted out to early so has they do not grow on to fast before the spring, if they do heart up before winter (if we get one) sets in they will get knocked about, which looking at my spring cabbage Set out for next year is very worrying they are way to forward.

I'll let you know how hardy they are Tim.

I've been growing Minicole (the tiny summer cabbage) for some years now, after I accidentally discovered that it is still edible in January! The heads end up looking like coconuts on stalks: peel off the outer layers and you've a perfect cabbage!

I reckon if that works, others ought to!

Same here with Greyhound, I planted those out in about June. Hope they last - don't have any other cabbages!
