Cor it is blowing in tonight!  The rain is lashing down and the wind is making the windows creak!  At least it is watering in the plants I moved on Monday!  I call this Devon weather because whenever we go home, this is the sort of weather we enjoy!  Drive into the mist past Stoneyhenge, have a few wet and windy North Devon days, and then drive back out into the sunshine this side of stoneyhenge!

Has been glorious over the last few days here. It was fairly reasonable weather this morning when I was at the lottie, but this afternoon we had heavy rain and very galey weather too, so I am glad I managed to squeeze a bit of work in.  Always feel a bit melancholy at this time of year, when the weather becomes more uncertain and the nights are drawing in.

My sister lived in a tiny village called Black Dog near Crediton a few years ago, and when we visited her, I was always surprised how much rain they seemed to have there. busy_lizzie

We had a glorious morning yesterday (today too). I was out in the garden picking the remains of my tomatoes and digging up the blighty plants :'( (And Monty said there wasn't much blight around this year. Pah). It was 8am and dispite my fluffy fleece, I had to pop indoors for more clothes and a hat! Couldn't find any gardening gloves, despite having about five pairs somewhere in the shed.

Dug up another potato plant - another 5lbs of Picassos.

By evening, it was chucking it down, but fortunately by that time I was tucked indoors preparing dinner. And when I went to bed, it seemed like the rain couldn't possibly get any heavier, but then it did. The wind was lashing it against the window. I was tempted to have a peak outside, but I was lovely and warm under the duvet.

I'm really enjoying the cold and autumnal feel in the air. But by November I'll be thoroughly fed up of it.
gone to pot :D

46F in the greenhouse last night. Not much pollination going on?

Mrs Ava

Ahhh, don't get me wrong, I adore the changing of the seasons, and autumn is quite special.  You can smell the air, the damp leaves, and I just love to watch the colours changing in the trees and the berries fattening up!  Yesterday afternoon, before school kicked out, I went for a walk around the playing field adjoining the school fields.  The fields are surrounded by huge oak trees and it was magical scrunching through the fallen dry acorns and looking up into the monster trees and spotting squirrels.
Tomorrow I will spend the whole day on the allotment, so am hoping for fine weather.  Must take my camera as I do think this is a magical time for photos....those dew dusted cobwebs and other diamonte beauties!

Not me, Emma!

And used to just love sitting on the (our own!) pebble beach just north of Bude with the storms lashing in & bringing up the flotsam. Incredible the stuff we gathered in. For a start, fishermens' balls in 4 colours! Wouldn't like to see the sort of stuff that comes in now though!

And for those who are sitting cushy-cushy at the moment, are you prepared??

Batteries, candles..........??

PS - we miss the 100 year old Bramley, but the Norway Maple that filled its place a few years ago (in the blog!) does remind one of the seasons?

Same thoughts as you EJ - took my eldest to the stables tonight, they are in centre of a country park full of oaks and other such huge trees.  Squirrels everywhere, conkers beginning to fall  the dog had a wonderful time running through leaves.

Also bought couple of punnets of raspberries from the walled gardens (i ve only got summer fruiting, i must remember to buy Autumn Bliss some time)

Yes I agree there are aspects of autumn I like very much.  Feeling cold again and feeling nice and snug under a duvet.  Having our coal fire on in the dining room and sitting around it watching the flames.  I love the colours too and the crispy leaves.  I like Halloween and Guy Fawkes night too.  I think I just miss going to the allotment so much and I miss the sunshine.  Think we discussed last year that special bulb you can get and I always mean to buy one to see if it makes a difference.  :) busy_lizzie

I can't wait until the oak two gardens down (which looks magnificent from our garden) starts to turn. I love oaks.

Off to Epping Forest on Sunday for a guided mushroom hunt so will take my camera along. I adore autumn colours.

Wardy - took sprogs to Clumber Park during the summer think I can picture where you mean - is it the long drive through arch-way, I can only imagine what a picture it looks during autumn!!!

Had a wonderful day there cycling - also no mobile phone signal which meant a wonderfully peaceful day - i,m starting to ramble and reminisce now about the long summer days  (notice how I conveniently forget the rainy days!!!!!!)
