Crusher

It's been about 2 weeks now since I got the "little Lottie" and I have not spent as much time on there as I would have liked to... Have had plenty of help from mum and my little princess Ellie....and the results are quite good...

Have introduced myself to a good few of the others now, and they are a varied bunch of people ranging from young to ancient, and those who are eally really helpful, and those who just want to tell you what you are doing wrong. They are all good people though and the wide variety of characters makes the place interesting. Especially looking forward to the Summer BBQ's a few of them mentioned...! Can see a few bottles of wine being emptied on the lottie next year...

Was going to post some piccies of "Before" and "Now" shots but not techie enough to do it..!

So quick up date, currently cleared 20 sq m and have now planted, White Onions, Red Onions, Broad Beans, Garlic and Spinach...wanted to get something in quick just so we can see some rewards for all our hard work...! So still have somewhere in the region of 580 sq m to go...It's bloody huge....was only expecting a third of what I actually got..! But gonna make the most of...

Have used the computer to design the overal plot and broken it down into workable areas with plenty of pathways between... There is going to be a Shed area, a decked area where gran can come and watch in comfort, and 3 compost heaps across the width of the plot... Just starting to decide what is going to go in which bed, ensuring that we make the best of the space we have. There will fruit, veg and flowers on the plot.

Youngest daughter has aready selected where her veggies and fruits are going to grow, and is very keen to get going. I am going make sure that she stays interested by making it fun, and at the same time educational. So she will be keeping a diary of whats growing, and making nice charts showing weekly growth. Am sure she will love it...had to go out and buy her a pair of "Wellie Shoes" the other day just like her dad's....

Anyway....will keep regular posts coming through.....If anyone has any advice, please let me know all advice gratefully received...

Take car and happy allotmenting...

Mark...

Sounds great Crusher - get your gran a comfy chair  :)  I had my great nephew with me last weekend and he loves his veggies (he's 6).  He was looking through my seed collection and chose what he wanted to grow.  He made a list for his mum and then we cut up a plastic milk bottle and made it into plant labels and he wrote on each of them the name of the veg he'd chosen from my packets.  It took him hours as he was so painstaking.  Very unusual for him as mostly he's terribly naughty (well he is when he's at home  :)  He folded his note for his mum and put it in his coat pocket as he wants to involve her in what's he doing (bless)  He and his little have been tucking into my lotty veg and loving it, especially the Italian giant parsley which they love to graze on  :)  My niece who's 10 has sown a box of chinese mixed tir fry leaves and they've been really prolific and are delicious. they withstand cold weather so I'm going to get some more in.  She dead chuffed and has started off with her lotty growing by using a metre square link a bord box which cost under a fiver  :)

Hope your little one enjoys it too - I'm sure she will.  A chap near me has just taken on an overgrown plot and he has five very young children and he always brings them to the plot  :)
I came, I saw, I composted

Sounding good Mark - keep up the hard work. Especially good to hear your little one is enjoying so much learning!

A few more things you could try sowing now - carrots, radishes, rocket and winter lettuces. (That was what I was sowing this week, so I hope they work anyway!)
gone to pot :D
