My hubby has singed my brassicas before with fires started too close to them :(
The answer - a metal incinerator thing to contain it perhaps?

I've got one of those metal things, but the pile of weeds I have is like a mountain. We decided against the fire option today, wind blowing in the wrong direction and I forgot to take the matches. Instead we extended the pallet compost bin, it's full of weeds now. :)

I have made a brazier out of an old metal 200 litre oil drum, with large holes punched in the bottom for a draught. It is stood on a grille, laid over bricks to create an ash pit. Thus all my rubbish goes in, and usuable ash comes out of the bottom, very effective. One of my better ideas . . .

OH made one from an old washing machine drum, works a treat and have been using the ash on my tomatoes :)

Yes! washing machine drum! that's me off to the local dump on a scavenging trip.....

I have a barbeque for doing my cooking TEL, great for grilled sweetcorn straight off the plants ... mmm

This is the one & only time Ive managed to cook Any thing so i am very happy. ;D ;D

Having a fire on the lotty always makes me think of autumn, I like the smell and everyone seems to come round if you are having a fire, just to poke it a bit.

And a bit of a warm, in the Autumn, eh Discovery!

d**n and blast. I knew I should've kept the old washing machine drum when it was replaced. I was going to, but couldn't think of anything to do with it.

Not that I have room for make fire in my garden. That's not the sort of activity even I would suggest the shed roof for!

where do you come across an old oil drum these days? ::)

crikey, if I can cook on the plot too I shall never go home in the summer ... ;D metal dustbin should be a lot easier to find I hope!

If you go to your local car dealer or small garage they should have a barrel they need to get rid of  :)

Be careful of using a galvanised dustbin. The heat generated by a fire can cause zinc vapours to be given off, which are highly toxic by lung damage ...

Sorry to be the bringer of bad news, but I would hate to hear of problems.

I've never checked out the incinerators the sell round here (basically dustbins with holes in) but they look very much like galvanised iron to me.
