Garden Manager

No not our Eric (well no not really), the word itself.

I have seen the word in various plant names recently and was wondering if anyone knew what it meant.  I know the meanings of quite a few plant species names (foetidous - smelly , japonica - of Japan, sinensis - of China etc) but this one puzzles me.

Finding out would also give me an insight into why Eric has chosen it as his 'pen name'.

Something to do with marshes? Certainly not crocodiles? = Tim

Which reminds me - we're only 8 miles from 'much binding in the marsh' - what a show - and the Marsh Goose' - what a food place! Sadly sold on.

Palustris means "marshy" or "boggy".

Ten x
Young, dumb and full of come hither looks.

Now then, what does this tell us about our Eric? Does he get bogged down from time to time? (lol)  ;)

It has just dawned on me, Erics little joke on us (on me?) Boy am I THICK sometimes or what! ;D

I realised it when reading a book on wildflowrs and kept on seeing 'palustris' next to plants who litk living in marshes.

Then remembered Eric's surname.

PALUSTRIS IS LATIN FOR MARSH!!!  The crafty devil  ;D

Its a pity i dont have a similar type of surname i could do the same.  For istance if I was Field, Fielding or Meadows i could call myself 'Arvensis'. Or maybe if my name were Woods it could be 'sylvestris'

As is is all i can think of of is a play on words with my name and size. How does 'Macrophyllus' sound?  :-/

Personaly i am not convinced and prefer arvensis or sylvestris, even though there is no connection with my name.
