Allotments 4 All

I sowed some Broad Beans in march, but only about a dozen plants, cos I didn't know if I liked them or not. Well they're the healthiest plants on my lottie, and the only thing doing much at the moment, and they taste okay, so would I get any beans if I sowed another batch now?

Same question of peas, every pea plant/seed I have put in has been munched to the ground by either slugs or birds  >:( Is there enough time to re-sow?

As I only got my lottie end of May, I'm behind with most things so am going to sow another lot of french beans and peas today (first peas sown only ended up with 3).  But I'm a newbie so not sure if things will grow in time, but worth a try as I've got the seed and the space.

Hopefully someone more experienced will be along soon....

Not sure about broad beans Moggle, don't see why not, but peas you can definitely sow until the middle of July, I planted some seedlings just a couple of weeks ago and they're doing really well in this warm weather.  :)

I did know about the french beans, I didn't sow mine till july last year. Good to know about the peas, and I may give the broad beans a shot just for fun!

Hmm, I would think sowing broadbeans now would be pusing it as they seem to be a bit slow to get going....but if the summer drags on into what should be autumn, then I bet you will get a harvest. 

Peas, I have several stages on the go.  2 varieties being picked, 1 row about 3 inches tall, and a module seed tray just sowed into last night!  I have given up sowing direct thanks to the meeces!

French beans, a similar story.  I understand (but someone please correct me if I am talking rubbish) Frenchbeans do not require pollination from buzzy critters so can be grown right up until the frosts.  I have 2 varieties almost ready to pick, 3 varieties just getting flowers, and I sowed another 3 varieties into modules last night.

Broad Bean varieties Fino & Medes are 'officially' ok to sow until June. I sowed the latter last week...not much to lose really!

Peas sown today, in root trainers to try and foil the mice!

Jerry - me too!  Last lot I sowed were pathetic (only got 2 plants).  So also sowed yesterday in root trainers - with a propagator type lid to try and foil mice and pesties even more!  ;D

I have bought a different variety of pea - twinkle - and will give those a go, as well as the original variety, Meteor. Have sowed some at home in pots, and will try to get down to the plot to direct sow some later this week.

Think I will also give the broad beans a go, they have done so well, if the autumn's mild it might work!

I sowed my broad beans back in April and they are just only now coming up with the pods which are about 3 inches long. 

They look very healthy and apart from a little blackfly, did not cause any other trouble.  However I think they take a long time to come to fruition but if I were you, I would give it another go.  I certainly will put more in !
