Well my new hip has been fitted and now I have to wait.. the trouble is I am walking better that just prior to the operation already. Still heavily bruised and the muscles ache a bit

I am what's known as an impatient patient

This came just at the wrong time, my busy time at work and smack dab in the growing season.
The 'Governor' has hidden my car/van keys (she knows me too well) and I am being constantly nagged to 'take it easy'

I know its all for the good... but it doesn't help when I read how all your produce is comng on and I can't get down to the lottie just yet to just have a look

If you hear anyone scream...its me!

Derek, Sounds as though you are making amazing progress. With that grit and determination you will soon be good as new, but do give yourself time to heal.  I can understand how you will be frustrated, but the lottie/garden will still be there when you are properly functioning.  However hard it is give yourself the time you need, you don't want to put your recovery back.

You know the old saying "when the weather's bad , mend your sails", so perhaps you could plant some seeds or do some forward planning. It always works for me if I make a plan even if it is just a short term one, so you are working towards something, then when that has been achieved you make another one.  You know it makes sense to be guided by your doctors but it must be difficult when you are raring to go.  :( busy_lizzie

;D Glad it went well Derek ;) take a deep breath and listen to the Governor, you don't want to go messing things up now its been fixed, time is a healer the lottie can wait. 8)

It must be really frustrating not to be able to get on to your allotment.  I hope someone is taking good care of it for you.  You'll have to content yourself with planning and reading your seed catalogues  :)

All the best for a speedy recovery

I came, I saw, I composted

Derek i wish you a speedy recovery . Do wait untill you get the all clear because if you don`t and get a setback you will be away even longer ::).

Do as you are told and take it easy for a while  :) . At least when you are back in action you'll be able to enjoy your allotment even more. Take care and get well soon

Chap in the village has had 2 hips done in the last year or so & has just done this. No looking back!!

But when my hip or something 'went funny' last night, family said 'for God's sake stand up & walk properly'.

They were terrified that they would have to do the chores!!

Derek having had both mine done my advice is use it,but with good care .I can do all jobs now ..............and without the pain.Doesnt take long to get back to normal.Be patient but do keep walking a little further each day and you'll soon get there.Good luck with it i know i have never looked back since mine were done.

I know I am a mere 'young un', but i do sympathise and understand the frustration of not being able to get out and garden properly.

A couple of years ago at about this time of year I had some bad knee trouble. Walking let alone kneeling  was difficult for some time. Unfortunately this was just the time of year when i needed to be able to kneel down to sow seeds, weed etc. it was either a case of do the jobs and suffer great pain or wait nad hope it wasnt too late to do the jobs by the time the knee problem was sorted out.

The moral is that, planting and seed sowing can be delayed, so really there is no point risking a setback just to get it done. As 'busy lizzie' suggests, maybe there are things you CAN do in the meantime, so that you can get going again once recovered.

So, have patience and you'll soon be back on the lottie.

I hope you get well soon.

Hi Derek,

Glad to hear you have been reincarnated.  BB is absolutely right, use it frequently but well.  You should be able to drive again in about 8 weeks after, provided no complications.  Your problem is that it just coincides with the most active time in the gardie!  No worries, remember how kind plants are, they always catch up!

If it all gets too much, just strum!

Best of luck  :D

...yes,its a real job...

Derek

Thanks for all your good advice...helps a little to join you all here.
I had my other hip replaced five years ago and was back at work part-time in five weeks..that's my goal although I intend to play it by ear and be sensible about it.

The amazing thing about relacement hips is that when you wake up from the operation the thing that hits you like a thunderbolt is ...there is no continual ache 24/7.. blessed relief.

Thanks again...enjoy your day..its such a lovely sunny morning here  :(

Nice to hear your on the road to recovery Derek
You get your self fit and strong and then you can enjoy all the work you put in when you was in pain doing it.

Best wishes
Ron
Dont screw up the best things in life cos you dont know who you are, or where you are going !!

BAGGY

How about a spot of virtual gardening ?  Take a camera off and see if you can snap something nice for us all to look at ? ( This is coming from the complete novice at photography you understand so perhaps I am just saying that from a selfish angle ? ;D).  Not nice being unwell.  You'll soon be fixed.     xx

Glad the op went well. To pass the time you can watch the live web cam of the blue tit nest and eggs that's linked from the wildlife posts. I wish I had time to watch it more than I do. :)

Good to hear you are feeling so well and so positive Derek.

As you have had a hip replaced already and Im still on my original ones  ;)  I cant give you any advise other than to take things slowly. But then you know that already dont you?  ::)

Take care  maz xx
A friend is someone who thinks you are a good egg,
