Help please re growing in pots

I have said I would start some veg off in pots for someone for their small garden.  They have had some building work done, so the garden is a bit of a mess.   I would just use buckets but they are not a bucket kind of person.  So what I want is ideas for cheap but attractive containers to grow veg in.  I was looking at tesco hessian bags the large ones are £1 ( with tree motif).   I was wondering if I could simply start things off in the bags then either bury them or put them on top of the soil after a brief car journey.  Though I presume the soil will leech through the bag and it will no longer look attractive.

Any ideas would be welcome.

Also which crops do you find do best in containers?

   I would just use buckets but they are not a bucket kind of person. 

If they purchase or make wooden planters, they could give the plastic insert to you to start the stuff away.  Or you could still start in buckets and tell them they can transfer to other containers if they so wish, depending on what you plant obviusly.  Carrots always do well in containers but are cheap enough to buy in shops.  What about peas and beans, Alderman peas grow 5-6ft.  They grow up the canes and flower before producing pods and are not cheap.  Outdoor cucumbers such as marketmore will grow the same.

I am impressed by the pic of the leeks seems you can get quite a few into into one bucket.  Might do some for my daughter as well.

You could do the buckets(Morrison's sell their daily flower buckets 10 for 99p)and then you could hide them by build a planter around them made from old pallets painted or stained

Is there some particular time of day that morrisons have this offer, never seen them?

Also try the Co op.  A lottie neighbour told me they were giving them away free - although I have never managed to bag any, he did.  Got a blunt No from Asda.

Lidals also sell their flower buckets off cheap some times even free  ,If you like the look of the hessen shopping bags how about putting the cheap buckets in side of the bags?   
That way if the bags get soiled its easy to replace with a new one

Greenfingers.com do some hessian containers & they are usually half price. I got a  pea/bean one for a neighbour. It has holes in the corners for the canes to slot into.

 how about the £1 shop  or the 99p shop they do 2 veggie bags  or hessian bags also 2pack. lots of cheap plant pots fairly large some of them others are quite a useful size.

It's usually a Saturday when I go to our local Morrison's and the empties are stacked next to the flowers. Try asking a member of staff- they might put some aside for you.

Our morrison's 'buckits' are under the tables that they have plants on, supposedly 8 for 99p, we usually get at least 12 and they are fastened together with tape

Yes that's right they do keep them around the cut flower section taped together with yellow 99p tape ,if your not a regular like me its always best to phone customer services and ask to have some saved for when you visit,they are on display virtually all day but don.t last long

If you have a Co op near you they give them away' ours does. Green fingers do an upside down hanger for toms, chill is or strawberries' only £2.99.

  Finally got some from Morrisons.  They put them out in the morning when they transfer the flowers to a display unit.  Got two lots.    Many thanks.
