Apologies if this has been mentioned before...can't seem to find a post about it so thought I'd better do one in case peeps weren't aware of it.

A new gardening/allotment tv micro-channel starts broadcasting on Sunday this week (6th March) at 9am on Sky Channel 166 and Freesat 402. The programs will also be available on YouTube and iTunes and their website for those without satellite. Apparently it will available on Virgin towards the end of the year as well.

This is what their website says about them:
QuoteThe Horticultural Channel.tv is a new television micro-channel which is broadcast on Sky, Freesat and available to watch on this website. Broadcast on Sundays at 9:00am. Programmes can also be downloaded via iTunes.

THC.tv provides programmes for amateur gardeners and allotment holders throughout the UK. Giving practical advice on how to grow vegetables, fruit, herbs and flowers plus information on how to keep chickens and bees.

Filmed throughout the United Kingdom the shows offer an insight into the people and the places that make up the network of allotment sites throughout the country.

Programmes begin March 2011.

Sounds quite good to me...shall be setting the Sky+ and checking it out  :)

I enjoyed it- not sure about feeding uncooked potato peelings to chickens though??
The potato bread looked nice. :)

Even though I have freesat, I could not receive it. Any suggestions why?

Seems interesting but I thought it was a new channel but they said there would be a new programme in a fortnight, is there only one programme every two weeks?

When I try to get it full screen my computer crashes.

When i first heard about this i thought it was a new channel too. Was slightly disapointed to find out it was just an occasional programme on a mixed content channel. Couldnt even Sky+ it as it clashed with other recordings.

Then i found it on You Tube and despite a power cut and 'buffering' towards the end found it surprisingly enjoyable. I had also been put off by the apparent allotment bias that preveiws had suggested. Turned out to have a nice mix of content, interesting to most people.

For an amateur production i found it a very well put together programme, and the presenters as good as any professional. Readers of Amateur Gardening magazine will have recognised collomnist Kris Collins doing the bit on begonias.

you might need to to a manual update of channels? if your tv isn't set to automatically do this

Mr Smith

Just watched the episode on Channel 166 and very informative it was, they covered lots of things like chittiing potatoes, planting onion sets and Poultry feeding also knocking up raised beds down on the lotty, good programme next one on the 20th March, :)
