buy a pair of wellington boots, which ones would you choose and why?
I am looking for a reasonably priced long lasting pair, only trouble is like everything.
The boot is flimsy, expensive, not fitting correctly, and does not support the foot.
I used to have a pair of Argyll wellies, so I chose these again. The old ones lasted me for twenty or so years and now they have gone right down in my estimation.
They now range from a mere £10.00 all the way up to a whopping £320.00 :o
Yes your eyes do not deceive you £320.00 for a pair.
How can we get a good pair which will do the job of digging and general work as well as walking in and not cost the earth?
OH tried to get me a pair of them. but she could not find a pair that fit my wide feet.
I have to wear a German made work boot as the fit is wide, and the support is good for all terrain when walking in the country.
As the ground is cutting up whilst out there is the factor of mud on the bottom of my trousers, so I would prefer to wear a wellie.
All support and ideas welcome, no matter how strange.

I've just bought a pair of Hunters wellies. Not really had them long enough to test them properly...but they seem very good so far. Nice and comfy but durable. My son has had a pair for slightly longer and they seem to be coping so far with the rough treatment he gives them  :)

go to an industrial workwear supplier, then I recommend getting a pair of Dunlop Hevea boots.

I love my toggi wanderer plus wellies.
I was a habitat surveyor for a few years and walked 10 mile days across all sorts of land and they were reall comfy and stayed waterproof.

I found hunter boots have really narrow legs and my calves were to big to fit them.

The toggis are around £70 but really durable, give suppor,t and comfort over thousands of miles and are lovely and warm for gardening.
Pricy but worth it.

Good advice there, no inflated fashion prices, proper safety boots, usually a bigger fit to get the old seamans socks inside for colder weather. There is no such thing as 'cheap' when it comes to boots, be it wellies or hob nails but I bet you don't pay more than £20 for a good pair. I might even pay you to look at the german ebay site if you know the make of your current german boots, it will only be a couple of quid more for postage.

I tried on a standard pair before we ordered online and found my calves were too wide for them...so opted for the adjustable calf ones and they have plenty of room  :)

If you look on the Hunters website, they have wide-fitting styles as well as the regular ones.  I can't wear normal boots because my calves are too big (I have to get my winter office boots from Duo in Bath, which does made-to-measure calf sizes), but the Huntress style fits me perfectly.  For some reason shops don't seem to stock this style but it's brilliant - sooooo comfy!  I wouldn't be without them now.

As for the clip Dukey, what a boggy area and the fashion pose of the wellie person is more than a bit weird. Do they often go for a wade in this or is it a one off? :-X
Cheap and purposeful is what I want not pricey and no good for walking the dog or gardening in.
This way I can spend more on veggies and less on costly wellies. ;)
