Never had room to plant  a crown but this year have cut back a lot  of things, should i start from seed or wait a while and buy a crown, also the make of a good one please, and anything i need to know about looking after it. Thanks to all that help me have a very Happy 2011  and i hope you all keep well during this bad weather.  Rugbypost

Crowns every time.  If you are lucky, some plot holders may split established crowns as they grow too big.  2 varieties to choose are:

Timperley Early - Harvest early May - late June.
Victoria             - Harvest June - August.

Remember not to harvest from your first years crop so to allow the plant to get established for future years.  It will pay dividends in the long run.

If you're desperate for a named variety, than possibly seeds, or certainly crowns from a good supplier - not necessarily the local GC. It's easy to pick up good-sized crowns on most sites, but very often people will have no idea what the variety is.

The best time is autumn, so they have plenty of time to settle in. It doesn't make a lot of difference at your end, since you have to wait at least 12 months anyway, but I wouldn't split rhubarb this late.

we have one called champagne and one raspberry something..both new two years ago, got a small harvest last year, both really good  :)
