The Bonbons are growing like mad and the frame looks to be on the point of collapse  :o  I think I will have to use scaffolding next year!

WOW!

This is the biggest, most dense squash 'hedge' you've ever grown.  Thanks for showing us.  This is impressive, hope the supports hold. 

This should be recommended to anybody who has trouble filling their allotment.  Put down black plastic, plant through it and stand well back.  These Bonbons are strong growers.  Never seen anything like it.

All the Bangladeshis come and have a look at it and I've told them I'll give them a squash when they are ready.
This is the first time I've grown Bonbon, I suppose I leave them on the plant for as long as possible?  (or until it all collapses :()

I am growing Bon Bon for the first time too Squash64  and I am pleased with the results so far the plant looks so healthy.

Yes, it is a winter squash, similar to (and probably bred from) buttercup squash.  They will store well into the new year.  

Duke,  nice looking too.  These will taste superb baked alongside a Sunday roast in winter.


~PS  just done a bit of reading on Bonbon.  They are 2005 All American Selection winners, bred for earliness, delicious flavour and - are you sure you have got the right seed there, Squash64!?! - restricted habit ?????

Yes Ten  ;), it is south facing.  If you do something like this next year I would recommend that you make the frame much stronger than I did.  I think mine might collapse soon.

Restricted habit?  As you say, best not to buy rampant ones!  Mine have gone upwards about 6ft, then across about 4ft and then down again another 6ft.

My squash beds are so thick now I cant see what is what and what belongs to what anymore. I think its one plant.

Shame!  Sorry to hear that.  It is very blowy here as well, had to pick up and redo a bean wigwam, that had fallen down.  I guess your repair job will be much more difficult.

I think I'll just leave it.  Only half has collapsed.....so far.
