I've got some shoots on my sweet potatoes ;D
Can someone tell me how big they should be before I remove them to pot up and how much of the original potato tuber to cut away with each slip?

Thanks.

wHEN i DID MINE A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO, i JUST PULLED THE SLIP OFF THE MAIN POTATO.......sorry caps lock (sheepish grin)....and put the slips in a jar of water. When they grew roots I potted them up.

Good luck with them.....mine grew well but I got a rubbish crop. ;)
I was born with nothing and have most of it left.

At the moment they are sat in the dark next to the hot water boiler - should I bring them out into the light?

I had mine on the windowsill Godfrey. They did fine there, good luck both of you. Keep us updated of your progress ;) :)

I read about the sweet potato slip thing and thought I would give it a go so I bought a sweet potato in Tesco's put it in a glass of water and hey presto 4 weeks later I have a slip about 1 1/2" long.  Now what ?

Should I grow them in the greenhouse or outside

Just break them off and push them into potting soil, then keep indoors until they are fully rooted, then harden off before they go into the greenhouse border or (much later after last frost) get planted through black plastic in the sunniest spot in the garden.

Thanks will get on with it now, not sure what to expect with it being a supermarket sweet potato but it will be interesting to see
