Sounds a great idea.  How about: -

Prawn cocktail, garlic mushrooms, garlic bread, black forest gateau, vol-au-vents, angel delight, quiche lorraine.

I remember the 80s as being "nouvelle cuisine" and high on presentation and fancy ingredients.  Prawn cocktails and cheese and pineapple are more 60s and 70s.

Anyway, there was also a backlash to grandma's cooking so you could do big cottage pies, steak and kidney pies, proper sausages and mash and for puds anything from bread and butter pudding to spotted dick.   All easy and fairly cheap to do in large quantities and serve as a buffet.

I always take a couple of big cottage pies to family events and they are alyways eaten quickly   ;D

Did they used to eat at 80s parties? I thought they just smoked long black fags and snorted coke!

Duke Ellington

I am of course far too young  to remember party 7's but I have been told that if you opened them cold they didn't spray!!!!!!! Its the room temp ones that caused the damage.

Keith Floyd, rip, was the eighties celeb chef. The only one I really liked, not like the fools who make it up as they go along now.  Get one of his books and do real eighties food with the glass of wine in hand. We did not do foody thing then too busy  making ends meet with the kids, but I'm almost sure bootiful was in with Bernards turkeys. So you could do a really naff buffet with all them pre-chewed turkey shapes. I also think donkey burgers were on the menu in some of the shadier dives.

Sholls

French bread pizza, Findus (or probably Bird's Eye these days) crispy pancakes, Pop-tarts and Cremola foam.

coznbob

Just seen a Cmoet advert for a soda stream machine.... that brought back memories! ;D

Got to have salad with grated carrot and cabbage, apparently it is very eighties according to a customer at the restaurant I work in, we still do it there :-[

Smile at your enemies.

It makes them wonder what you are up to.

kt.

Dont forget the plonk... Ace lager.  (White tin with blue writing I think,  the cheapest stuff that was available 8) 8))

Blimey I had forgotten about that drink didn't they have an issue with the duty to pay on it as the alcohol was so low in some batches it did not register. It does make  nice mixer for brandy. This thread has bought home that it does not seem like yesterday with the kids always underfoot (love em really) ;D

For you that still have the little uns. Make the most of them, they are soon gone.
