It seems to be a particularly good year for fungi and I have several types growing in the garden.  I think they are beautiful and I'd like to find out more about them.  Can anyone recommend a good illustrated book please?

Thank you.

Both look excellent so I'm in a bit of a dilemma now.  Any other thoughts from anyone else?

It looks like the Roger Phillips then, unless anyone disagrees?

Roger Phillips for when you get them home, river cottage if you're foraging!

Edited to add - Having said that, the most recent edition of Phillips is a bit easier to lug around than the previous editions.

Er, so does Hugh have a book on fungi then, Ollie?  Rather like his books.  :)

The best thing about the River Cottage fungi book is that he tells you what you're most likely to mix up the edibles with. It's small enough to take with you & written to his usual high standard & pretty funny, but he doesn't worry about what's interesting, just what's edible & what's deadly, so a different emphasis to most other mushroom books... I take it on most walks!
