This plant is on my plot in an area I've yet to sort out.

Any ideas what it is?

The yellow flowers are now drying.

Rhubarb Thrasher

looks a bit like an evening primrose of some sort

Poppy Mole

I inherited one just like that at my new house & was told it was evening primrose.

a third for evening primrose here :)

shirlton

We had some in the garden some years ago and we used to go out in the evening and watch them open
When I get old I don't want people thinking
"What a sweet little old lady"........
                             I want em saying
"Oh Crap! Whats she up to now ?"

You couldn't make it up!

I spent quite a number of years trying to get Evening Primrose to grow and now I can't get rid of them, they never seem to come up where you want them just everywhere else.

Mine do not seem to smell.  Does that depend on the variety?

thifasmom

they do smell lovely and yes they do come up everywhere but i find them easy to weed out. the petals are also very nice in salads, they have a hint of sweetness.

I'm not sure that all varieties of evening primrose have a scent. Mine, which grow like weeds, are the very tall ones (5 foot) and they have no smell at all. They flower continuously from May till November, one of my greatest summer pleasures is watching the flowers pop open on a warm evening.  So many of the lovely things in my garden are there by accident!

There are loads of these all over my site. A few of my fellow amateur gardeners have wondered if they are weeds as they seem to pop up everywhere. I'll let them know that they are supposed to not be a weed!

I'm not keen on them- they look too floppy for my liking!

They'd be OK at the back of a border, but that's about all. I tolerate a few on the plot.
