Thanks for  your thoughts on the  new Wembley Stadium. My family history is/was connected to THE Wembley Stadium, when it belonged to Pages Estate.................qahtan

Went there to see the Barbars v England - I was impressed but then again I am used to Twickenam which is a bit of a monstrosity.
Really easy to get drink, nice bars etc
Moved to Portugal - ain't going back!

Froglegs

I thought it was ugly compared to the Emirates stadium it looked too industrial, probably that was done deliberately to blend in with its surroundings after all it is in the middle of what looked like a retail park. After paying £5 for a program and a £1 extra t put in a bag,it would have been nice if it made tea,cos at them prices i could not afford a bloody cuppa.

Off hand I can't remember the details but when  Wembley Estate was sold back on the 1800s it went for 37.000 pounds, and back then there was talk of a link from there to Paris.
The Page brother that made the sale was heavily into debt because of drink.   qahtan

I like the new Wembley... that said there's nothing wroing with the emirates that you couldn't solve with a few tons of dynamite and a high-powered sniper rifle... I think I'm with CK on this one

I don't understand it. You pay all that money to watch kids kick a ball about within shouting distance of my allotment then just moan.

At least the tea is free in my hut.

Froglegs

Next time me lad drags me to wembley i will leave him there and come n have a(ya did say its free?) brew with you in ya hut Eristic as I'm sure ya hut and its surroundings will more pleasing to the eye. :)

Eristic

Everyone welcome.

Next time Froglegs, I'll have your ticket and go with your lad and you can go and have a cuppa.    ;D ;D ;D

Last time I went to Wembley Stadium, it was to see the England v Scotland game a few years back (and we flipping lost) but I do indeed miss the look of the 'ol twin towers.  Am I the only one who doesn't see the point in the great metal arch structure across the top?

tonybloke

the great metal arch is supporting the roof!!
You couldn't make it up!

I'd like to pretend I have an engineering degree but alas ... do explain!  ;D

Eristic

It's all done with wires.
