Slugs and snails are eating the leaves

My chillies are growing well, both inside the polytunnel and out on the plot.....but the flippin slugs and snails won't leave them alone!  Every day I find them munching their way through the leaves.  Between them and the whitefly I'll end up with leafless sticks!

Lost all my leaves to slugs too, whole lot gone :(

My cucumbers are in my greenhouse with the chillies.   Whilst I am picking out the male flowers I let the chookies roam and nibble.   First and juciest choice are the slugs.  They don't like the chillies for some reason  ;D

chillies wont hurt the chooks if they eat them brian as far as i'm aware birds aren't affected by capsaicin so it might pay to watch they don't start nibbling away at them!!!
