How do you get the stars?

Just a quick question as I don't understand how you get the stars that appear under your name or the descriptions such as Half acre or Hectare. :-\  Can anyone explain this for me. Thanks

Thanks for the replies manic and MASTER. Enjoyed the video The stars and decriptions have puzzled me since I first joined the site. In order to catch you up I'll have to improve on my postings then :)
