How are your aubergines?

I have 3 each of Black Beauty and Calliope, all looking healthy and growing well in my kitchen, about 7" high with nice big leaves. Ready for potting on again and I'm wondering whether to risk putting them into my unheated greenhouse yet. How and where are yours?

I'm trying Ophelia this year and mine are in 4" pots (2 per pot) in a sunny room, they're just starting to show the 4th leaf. They germinated easy enough but have been slow to start new leaves. Not sure when to pot on or to put out in the placcy greenhouse so will be interested to see the replies

mine are also doing well but i think i'm going to keep them in the conservatory till the end of April at least, judt to play it safe.

I am cruel, mine went in the unheated greenhouse a few weeks ago, inside a mini greehouse and fleeced at night. They were potted on last week so it doesn't seem to have hurt them too much so far!

I may be a wimp here, but we never put ours into the cold 'house until the last week in May.

As I understand it, things will grow on in the cold, but they will not necessarily flourish.

Ours are in the big greenhouse... under fleece.  :)

Mine are in my frost free greenhouse but on a heat mat as well. Will start hardening off soon with a view to going outside in a couple of weeks

Think I might pot them up but keep them inside for a few more weeks.I am determined to get some decent fruit this year.

I've said it before, but don't give up.

We grew 8 Macchiaw - the long ones - outdoors, 650' up, with the protection of 'Dutch Lights' when necesssary - & harvested over 100 fruit.

We have Black Beauty, Red Egg, Diamond and Violetta Lunga all in a heated greenhouse and about 3 ins high - would not risk them in an unheated greenhouse until end of May (and I will still keep an eye on the night time temperatures).

I remember frost and snow at the end of May here in sunny Yorkshire so would not trust the weather until June.

I have grown several varieties outdoors without protection, but mine still won't be going outside until May and I'm in Kent. They'll survive pretty chilly weather, but sulk like nothing else. Keep them smug indoors for now, I do let them outside on sunny days under glass, though.
