Potatoe planters

These are the pop-up rubbish bags i got from poundland, they are 33cm across and about 40-45cm deep.
I have planted 3 pink fir apples in each.

I was thinking carrots too.  Bit of a novice here - would I get away with filling the planters half full with compost or would this deprive them of light?  I'm being a cheapskate not wanting to fill the whole sack with compost.

Thats a good idea.

I was thinking of hanging some up and trying upside down planting(cutting a hole in the bottom) or cutting holes in the sides for tomatoes or strawberries.

fantastic found them in our local pound land today, great size for potato growing!! ;D
thank you they also had lots of bulbs and rose bushes etc for a pound

Last year I grew carrots in dustbins for the first time.I filled the bottom half (or more, can't really remember!) with clumps of weed-filled earth which I'd dug out of my plot, then put compost on top. The carrots grew fine and the weeds didn't come up.
