I lost my Mum very suddenly seven years ago to this very day, and our very last conversation was about how beautiful the snowdrops were looking  :'(

Thats nice Honeybee

When I read the title of this post I too thought about my Mum's very last words to me over the phone held by the hospital wards secretary (she couldn't find a nurse when I called)....she spent the entire call about 5 mins trying to say goodbye. The call ended when the lady holding the phone ran out of the room with it so she didn't cry in front of my Mum. She died 24 hours later.

"Don't play down by the river"... she always saw us, it was only later when we worked in the same mill we realised they could see us from the top floor...  ::)

And like HoneyBee, I was called to Hospital and she was past talking...  :'(

I will never forget the nurses at the Hospital when Mum was dying and she realised it.  They would not remove her oxygen mask, rules are rules.  Mum wanted to talk to me and my husband.  I ranted a bit to the charge nurse and eventually they took it off for a few minutes and Mum had her say.  As long as there is life, save it at all costs can go a bit far at times.   :'(

It was changing the drip with me, they were acting busy because family were there, I told them to save the money, she died 5 mins later....  :'(

My mother is a feast of sayings and she still comes out with some classics, but  my most memorable from when I was little and it was still safe to play out on the London streets with your mates until it was dark are 'don't keep  showing your knickers to the boys'..............(not quite what you think, I use to do handstands a lot!)  and 'don't go around trying to catch the other kids with dog presents' (a.k.a. a bit of dog poo on a stick!) I was such a good little girl....... ;D
If it's not pouring with rain, I'm either in the garden or at the lottie! Probably still there in the rain as well TBH....🥴

One of my mothers best phrases was "Ive told you a million times don't exaggerate"
I was ony discussing mothers day with my brother earlier on today.
I am very lucky my mother lives about a hundred yards down the road but we do not live in each others pockets.

Honeybee, that's lovely - my mother died during primrose time on Skye and we were both admiring them all the way across Scotland from the East coast for a lovely wedding at which she enjoyed herself tremendously then had a fatal stroke. I kept a bunch by her face in hospital when she was flown by helicopter to Inverness, decorated her coffin with piles of them, and handed some to the youngest grandchild to throw into the grave.

The problem in hospital was that they kept taking her oxygen mask OFF, and I did not want her gasping for breath in front of my 82 yr old very shocked father, so I kept putting it back on. She couldn't speak, she was unconscious. When she died, I could tell from the colour of her face that they had taken it off while I was out of the room, caring for my father.

She used to say "For goodness sake take your nose out of that book and get out into the fresh air!" Over and over again!

'Be in by 10' was mums thing when I was in my mid teens, that and 'be good'.  I never was!

Dad's I always remember, as soon as I could drive it was always, 'No drinking, not even one, never!'.  He drummed it into me, and nope, never have.....hence I am always the passenger.  :-X
