This was originally mentioned several weeks back by robinaber but appears to have been formally announced (or re-announced) now.

Various news outlets report this morning (link to Guardian below) that the National Trust plans to set aside some of its land for allotments. The figures appear to talk about 1000 plots spread across 40 locations. I cannot see any further detail so far.

Isn't that because they have their own version of NT?

This is where you register your interest:

Looks like it's heavily sponsored by channe 4.

But at least it's a start.

It''s all over the papers today so it's a bit of good publicity for allotments, plus hopefully some new sites.

Dear Mr ********

Further to my last reply to you, I have been asked by the Policy and Communications Department to pass on this response to you on the subject of National Trust allotments.

There are no current plans for the National Trust for Scotland to institute a scheme of this type.

Thank you for contacting the National Trust for Scotland.

Yours Sincerely

Zoe Williams makes a living mainly from writing articles that are provocative .. in that they usually show that she knows very little about the subject matter.

I reckon that this is quite deliberate .. as she has admitted.

I am just jealous that I cannot make money that way!?!
